Facebook stock buoyed by mysterious email invitation

Some sort of Facebook announcement scheduled for January 15

The stock price of Facebook has surged to over $30 in the last 48 hours, since the social network began sending out invitations to "come and see what we're building" this coming Tuesday in its Menlo Park, California Headquarters. The share price surge marks the high mark for the stock since July.

Electronista has contacted Facebook for more details on the event, and was rebuffed. Speculation is varied, but the general consensus points to the long-rumored introduction a Google-like search function integrated into Facebook feeds of a user, accessible with a single click.

Facebook's precipitous decline stopped in November, with a slow climb in the stock since then. Several stock "lockup" periods have passed without a mass selloff of stock by insiders and other early owners of the stock.
